Dahod (Gujarat) [India], May 26 (ANI): Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Monday, hailed the inauguration of the modern locomotive manufacturing plant in Dahod, Gujarat, describing it as a transformative moment that will redefine the city’s global identity.
According to Vaishnav, the plant will produce 9,000-horsepower electric locomotives named “D Nine”, symbolising Dahod’s resurgence as a railway production hub, capable of not only serving India’s network but also exporting worldwide.
“When the world was run by steam engines, Dahod was a big production for the railway. But as these engines were getting replaced, it affected the work in Dahod, which made a big difference to the economy of Dahod… But our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in 2022 decided that modern electric locomotives would be built in Dahod, and the work started in 2023. Today, a modern factory is ready,” the Railway Minister stated.
“The 9,000-horsepower locomotives from the land of Dahod will not only be operated in the railway network of India but also be exported all over the world…And this engine is not just an engine but a running computer centre…This engine, made in Dahod, is of high quality but at a low price… And it is named D Nine, which means Dahod 9000…This factory in Dahod will be world-famous, and this engine will give Dahod a new identity in the world. PM Modi has given this blessing to the sacred land of Dahod,” he added.
Earlier today, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated a Locomotive Manufacturing plant of the Indian Railways in Dahod, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the nation’s railway infrastructure and freight capacity.
The Prime Minister also flagged off the first electric locomotive manufactured at the plant.
According to an official release from the Prime Minister’s Office, the PM inaugurated the manufacturing plant in line with his commitment to enhancing connectivity and building world-class travel infrastructure and this plant will produce electric locomotives of 9000 HP for domestic purposes and for export.
The locomotives will help in increasing the freight loading capacity of Indian Railways and will be equipped with regenerative braking systems and are being designed to reduce energy consumption, which contributes to environmental sustainability, the release stated. (ANI)
