New Delhi [India], August 12 (ANI): For the sixth consecutive year, IIT Madras has topped in both the ‘overall’ and ‘engineering’ categories in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, while IISc Bengaluru has retained the first position in the university category.
Hindu College, Delhi, is ranked number 1 in the college category, with Miranda House in the second position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 released on Monday by the Ministry of Education.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has been ranked as the best university for the past 9 years. JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi are in the second and third positions, respectively, in the university category.
IISc Bangalore has also been recognised as the second-best institution in the ‘overall’ category.
While IIT Madras bagged the first position as the top engineering institute, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay clinched the second and third positions, respectively.
IIT-Madras has also been ranked as the best engineering college for the past nine years. In the management category, IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta are among the top five.
In its ninth edition, the ranking framework evaluates institutions on five broad parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice, graduation outcomes; outreach; inclusivity; and perception.
Three new categories were introduced this year, taking the total to 16.
The higher educational institutes are listed under 16 categories: overall, universities, medical, engineering, management, law, architecture colleges, research institutions, pharmacy, dental, agriculture and allied sectors, innovation, state universities, open universities, and skill universities.
IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA) has been ranked as the best management institute for the fifth consecutive year.
Meanwhile, AIIMS New Delhi is the best medical college in India. It has retained its position.
In the NIRF 2024 Innovation category, IIT Bombay has secured the top position. IIT Madras follows in second place, while IIT Hyderabad holds the third position.
This year, as many as 10,885 higher education institutions participated in the NIRF.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a ranking methodology adopted by the Education Ministry to rank higher educational institutions in India in 2015.
A Core Committee constructed the methodology for ranking institutes set up by MHRD to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.
The Indira Gandhi National Open University has secured the first place, followed by Netaji Subhash Open University (Kolkata) and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (Ahmedabad) in the second and third places under the open universities category (a newly added category).
AIIMS New Delhi, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, CMC Vellore and NIMHANS have retained the top positions.
In the pharmacy category, Jamia Hamdard has climbed one spot from last year to secure the top position. The second position is held by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Hyderabad. Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani has maintained its third position. JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, is placed in the fourth position.
Anna University is placed in the top position among the state public universities. It is the new category in the ninth edition. (ANI)
