Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 20 (ANI): After recovering several suspected IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) from different locations of the state, Assam police have now decided to transfer two cases related to bomb threats by the banned insurgent group ULFA-Independent to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the cases.
Assam DGP GP Singh on Tuesday said, “We move the government to transfer two cases, one case of Guwahati and one case of Lakhimpur, to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), so that we can utilise the resource base and also work together along with the federal agencies to get to the bottom of this entire thing.”
He further said that ULFA should not last very long.
Speaking about the formation of Special Investigation Teams (SITs) to investigate the cases related to bomb threats by ULFA-I, the Assam DGP said that, suspected IEDs were placed in different districts by ULFA and Assam police have formed SITs to investigate the cases.
“In Guwahati, the SIT is headed by the Joint Commissioner of Police and the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) is headed in other concerned districts. In all the cases substantial progress has been made. In Sivasagar, we have already arrested four persons including one person who was part of the group who had placed the suspected IEDs at particular place. We are hopeful that we should be cracking the cases fully in very short time,” GP Singh said.
“I am hopeful that together with the federal investigation and intelligence agencies we should be in a position to investigate and crack these cases and bring all those perpetrators to book very soon,” the Assam DGP said.
On the other hand, speaking about the strength of ULFA-I, the Assam DGP said that, ULFA should not last very long.
“ULFA has been around for 40 years. I think these are the last phases. Public starts voicing opinions against these activities of ULFA. ULFA should not last very long,” GP Singh said. (ANI)
