New Delhi [India], August 10 (ANI): Union Minister G Kishan Reddy expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving a new rail line in Telangana.
In a post on X, Reddy said that the new railway line will enhance passenger movement, facilitating easier and more efficient travel while significantly boosting various sectors such as agriculture, business and tourism, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.

The Union Cabinet on Friday approved eight new line railway projects covering seven states and 800 km with a total cost of Rs 24,657 crore. One of the new lines approved addresses a long pending demand for a railway line at Bhadrachalam in Telangana. The 173-kilometre-long new rail line Bhadrachalam – Malkangiri project is estimated to cost around Rs 4,109 crores and will connect Bhadrachalam Temple Town with the mainline rail network.

The initial proposed section between Malkangiri to Bhadrachalam ( 147.5 Km) will be further extended from Bhadrachalam to Pandurangapuram (26.1 Km). While the new railway line between Jeypore – and Malkangiri is under progress, the proposed line from Malkangiri to Bhadrachalam would open a new corridor connecting the South Central Railway (Pandurangapuram) to East Coast Railway (Junagarh).
Accordingly, the new railway line apart from connecting several new places for the first time with a rail facility will be useful for the socio-economic development of the region. It will aid in the passenger movement from Telangana state to Orissa via Chhattisgarh and vice versa and it will boost the multiple sectors like agriculture, business, education, tourism, healthcare, etc.

The project will enable an alternate trade route from southern Odisha and Chhattisgarh to Southern India and also reduce the distance from deep-sea ports of Andhra Pradesh to the mines and aluminium and steel plants in Odisha and Chhattisgarh by about 140 Km. This railway line would provide the shortest passenger route from Chhattisgarh to Vijayawada and Hyderabad and save travel time and cost along with a direct connection from Southern Odisha and Central Odisha to Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Moreover with the National Waterway NW5 under construction connecting to Paradip Port, the possibility of linking this project to the NW-5 project to attain multimodality can be explored in the future.
The Project is expected to attract substantial traffic from NH-326 to the railway network creating logistic efficiency. The project will also help with cargo evaluation for ports under the AP Maritime Board like Krishnapatnam, Machilipatnam port and the upcoming port of Ramayapatnam bringing out the multi-modal nature of the project.
Earlier, Telangana state also received top priority in railway budget allocations. In the budget of 2023-24, for the development of railways in Telangana, Rs 4,418 crores Was allocated and in the recent 2024-25 budget Rs. 5,336 crores was allocated. (ANI)
