Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 5 (ANI): The third Monday of the holy Savan month added a new feather in the cap of Mahakal ki Nagri, Ujjain. A total of 1500 Damru players created a world record by giving a captivating rhythmic performance at Shaktipath located on the premises of Mahakaleshwar Temple, Mahalok Lok on Monday, stated an official release.

“The city resonated with the sound of Damru, which is considered the favourite musical instrument of Lord Shiva. 1500 people played Damru here at a time and broke the previous record of Federation of Indian Association New York of 488 people played Damru. Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath presented the certificate of creating the world record for Damru playing,” the release read.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav extended greetings and congratulated Ujjain for creating the world record.
Taking to his social media handle ‘X’, CM Yadav wrote, “With the sound of 1500 damrus, Avantika Nagari (Ujjain city) created a world record. A wish to make the city of Baba Mahakal resound with the sound of damrus has come true today. Today, on the third Monday of the holy month of Savan, Ujjain registered its name in the “Guinness Book of World Records” by playing damrus on the tune of Bhasma Aarti. Now, it has become very difficult to put this wonderful and supernatural feeling into words.”
May Baba Mahakal continue to bless all of us like this. Hearty congratulations to all the devotees of Baba Mahakal on this achievement, CM Yadav further wrote.
“1500 Damru players of 25 groups praised Lord Mahakal by playing Damru to the tune of Bhasma Aarti. To create a Guinness Book of world records, 1500 artists together played Damru, and the melodious sound of Damru and manjiras became the centre of attraction. The entire city reverberated with the sound of Damru. In a unique event on Shaktipath in front of Mahakal Mahalok, the captivating performance of Damru playing artists dressed in saffron clothes enthralled everyone,” the release read.
The successful Damru playing program was organised with the efforts of the district administration and Mahakal management committee.
With the efforts of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Baba Mahakal Sawari is also becoming even more grand and divine. He has made unique efforts to give grandeur to Mahakal Sawari. In the last two Baba Mahakal sawari, tribal folk dances and a 350-member police band performances were presented. Damru is being played in the third Mahakal sawari taken out on the third Sawan Somvar, it added.
Notably, there is a tradition of taking out Baba Mahakal’s sawari (ride) on every Monday in the month of Sawan month. It is believed that in order to know the condition of the public, Baba Mahakal goes on a tour of the city. The devotees also wait for hours on the roadside to witness the ride and consider themselves blessed by getting a glimpse of Baba Mahakal. (ANI)
