Paschim Medinipur (West Bengal) [India], October 28 (ANI): Accusing the Trinamool Congress of opposing policies in the national interest, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday expressed confidence in the Election Commission of India (ECI), stating that the body is doing its work without any partiality.
Ghosh noted that none of the political parties registered any official complaints with the ECI against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and emphasised that no genuine voter’s name can be removed from the electoral rolls.
“These people (TMC) voluntarily oppose anything that is in the national interest. But the Election Commission is conducting its work impartially. ECI said there was no complaint, no appeal against this. All parties helped, and everything happened, and it will happen here too. No one can delete the name of a genuine voter, and anyone who tries to include a duplicate voter will be arrested,” Ghosh told reporters.
He further stressed that no foreign citizen can acquire voting rights in India through the SIR exercise and urged the West Bengal government to cooperate fully in implementing the process.
“No Bangladeshi or anyone else can become a voter… We need the state government’s cooperation, and they should fulfil this responsibility, as they have sworn to uphold the Constitution,” he added.
The first phase of the SIR was conducted in Bihar in September ahead of the State Assembly elections.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said that the poll body will conduct the second phase of the SIR in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
According to the Election Commission, printing and training will take place from October 28 to November 3, followed by an Enumeration Phase from November 4 to December 4. The Draft Electoral Rolls will be published on December 9, followed by a claims and objection period from December 9 to January 8, 2026. The Notice Phase (for hearing and verification) will take place between December 9 and January 31, 2026, with publication of Final Electoral Rolls scheduled for February 7, 2026. (ANI)
