Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], July 18 (ANI): Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal on Thursday alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seems to be on a monthly assignment given by the Modi-Shah duo to go after the Congress senior leadership and their family.
In a post on X, Venugopal said yesterday, “It seems the Modi-Shah duo has given the ED a monthly assignment to go after the Congress senior leadership and their family. The latest ED action against Mr. Robert Vadra is pure political vendetta – yet another futile attempt at intimidation.”
Today, in the early morning hours, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at the premises of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged multi-crore liquor scam in the state.
Bhupesh Baghel’s office, following the raids, posted on X,” ED has arrived. Today is the last day of the Assembly session. The issue of trees being cut in Tamnar for Adani was supposed to be raised today. ‘Saheb’ has sent the ED to the Bhilai residence.”
The searches are part of the agency’s broader crackdown on suspected money laundering and irregularities linked to the multi-crore scam.
In March of this year, the ED seized Rs 30 lakh from the residence of Bhupesh Baghel and his son, Chaitanya. The amount was recovered during a day-long search operation conducted at a total of 14 locations across Chhattisgarh, pertaining to alleged irregularities in the liquor trade, involving suspected illegal commissions and money laundering.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Congress MLAs were suspended from the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly by Speaker Raman Singh for raising slogans and disrupting the question hour in the Chhattisgarh Assembly.
On Congress MLAs’ suspension from Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Speaker Raman Singh said on Thursday, “Today (July 17) was a day that hurt the prestige of the state… Breaking a 25-year tradition, slogans were raised in the Chhattisgarh Assembly today, and the question hour was disrupted… Even after my warning, they did not move out of the Assembly and I had to adjourn the question hour… I have suspended the MLAs for today and I hope the traditional values of Chhattisgarh Assembly will be held high…”.
